geek training: zombies, run!
So…I’m writing a post about zombies. If someone told me when I started this blog that I’d be writing a post about zombies — well, I would have scoffed. Laughed. Perhaps even sneered. Yet here we are.
I’m proud of the geekiness that is part of me. I have no shame about that. And I don’t begrudge those who are obsessed with zombies (brother-in-law – I’m lookin’ at you), but zombies have never been my thing. They’ve just never really grabbed me (pun intended – heh, heh).
Until last week…
There is a new app called Zombies, Run! and it is from a company called Six to Start. They raised funds last year through Kickstarter and launched their newly created game/app last week. I downloaded it. I love it.
Here’s the deal – you do your workout (yes, as in exercise), but instead of slogging along with a magazine or a television show in front of you, or your well-known route around you (if you venture outside), Zombies, Run! transports you (via your headphones) into a world where zombies abound and you are a survivor. You collect supplies. You have to outrun zombie mobs. And you become an intricate part of an interesting story. It’s not just a game – there’s mystery and intrigue and action. Each mission brings something new. I’m enjoying it so much that I have to stop myself from working out more than once a day. That’s right – I have to talk myself down off the elliptical. All because I want to help Abel Township. And I want to know what’s going to happen next.
Here’s another review, if you’re interested. See? It’s not just me.
Sound like fun? Maybe you’ll be out there fighting the good fight, too.
And remember, it’s first a cough, then a rattle, then a moan…
